At the end of summer 2017, we made a trip to Windsor Castle.
We first checked in at our hotel, Beaumont House, a Principal Hayley chain of hotels. This was set in beautiful surroundings of Old Winsor just 10 minutes off the M25, not that you would know as the grounds were lovely and peaceful. Trees, a pond and a small trail for children to follow making the grounds a tranquil place to be.
The room was lovely, clean, crisp white sheets and a bathroom that included a full-size bath, I was in Heaven! The place was amazing.
The White House was just across the way, a separate large building that holds weddings and other such occasions. It contains bedrooms, grand dining rooms and function rooms, so guests had the privacy of their event without being disturbed by the other guests in the main hotel.
The breakfast the following morning was one of the best I have experienced, it was self-service and there was everything you could imagine and as much as you could eat to start the day.
Windsor itself was a beautiful old town, very pretty and very royal looking. We arrived in the town just as changing of the guard was taking place, this is a sight I recommend to anyone visiting, the marching of the guards coming up the road towards the Castle, the drummers drumming, trumpets playing, everyone in precise timing. This was an amazing sight to see and hear.
Windsor Castle did not fail to impress. it’s grand and royal buildings, it’s impressive towers, inside it contains 225 bedrooms and high decorative
ceilings. The history of the Castle, the fire that ripped the heart of Queen and Country happened in 1992 was re-built over the next few years so expertly done that you would never know it had happened.
The chapel within the grounds is also a must to see, it holds the tombs of The Queen Mother and George V1 and Princess Margaret. A sealed vault in the floor contains the coffins of Henry V111 and Charles 1.
A couple of gifts shops are also within the grounds for you to purchase a gift to take home to remember such a good day out.
You can see why the Queen and other members of the royal family want to spend their time there.
